Comic-Con entertains students

A small group of students were more than excited when they heard that the Comic-Con was traveling to Baltimore on the weekend of September 25.

Comic-Con is a national traveling convention for comics, video games, movies, action figures, and anything science fiction related.  It is most known for its location in San Diego, California.  Comic-Con is somewhat new to Baltimore; this year marks it’s 14th year in the Baltimore convention center.

This year’s convention hosted more than 75 guests that range from artists and authors to directors and actors.  The guest of honor was Peter Mayhew, who played the Chubaca in Star Wars four, five, and six.

Students who were in attendance were sophomore Dan McNair, junior Nathan Shelley, and sophomore Phillip Karpouzie, along with History teacher Matt Amberman.

McNair, Shelley, and Karpouzie all went together because they are  interested in the video games that were presented during the convention.

“I’m into the video games,” stated Karpouzie. “I’m not really into the whole comic book aspect of the convention,  but I did get autographs from a lot of the comic guys that were there for my friends.”

McNair and Karpouzie both said they had a lot of fun at the convention.

“The convention was a blast,” said McNair.  “I went with one of my good friends, and we both enjoy the same things like the convention, and I hope I go again next year.”

Shelley was invited to the convention by Karpouzie and hopes to go back next year.

“Walking around and seeing everything they had there was a lot of fun,” said Shelley. “My favorite was the guy selling swords.”

The gang of friends had a blast at the convention this year. The convention was a time to celebrate the love for science fiction and the comic universe.  All three students went to the convention expected to have fun, but it’s safe to say Comic-Con was a great experience that more people should attend.
