Upcoming events excite seniors

The senior class has many activities to look forward to as we get closer and closer to graduation.

From senior banquet, the senior class trip, award ceremonies, baccalaureate, and lastly the commencement ceremony, seniors have many events to be excited about.

The semi-formal senior banquet took place on Tuesday, May 13 at St. John’s Recreation Room at 6:00 p.m.  At the banquet the seniors had a chance to eat and socialize before a slide show was shown and awards were given out. These awards were superlatives voted on by the senior class.

Senior Matt Reynolds, who won ‘Most Likely to Brighten Your Day’, expresses how he felt about his award.

“I wasn’t there to get my sash, but when I heard that I won ‘Most Likely to Brighten Your Day’ I felt honored,” said Reynolds. “I try to be nice to everyone and always have a positive attitude.”

Following the banquet, both the in-school and out-of-school awards ceremonies are set to take place on Wednesday, May 21. The in-school awards will be given out at 1:00 p.m. and, the after-school will take place at 7:00 p.m. The annual in-school awards give seniors a chance to be recognized for their achievements in front of the faculty and students. Seniors sit on stage and are awarded academic awards as well as athletic awards. Awards are also given out to underclassmen. The after school awards are seclusive to seniors and their parents. At this award ceremony all of the Dollars for Scholars scholarships will be awarded. Seniors receiving scholarships were sent letters in the mail inviting them to this ceremony.

Senior Megan Harman is excited to see what her scholarship is.

“I can’t wait to find out which scholarship I got,” said Harman. “The letter I got in the mail didn’t say how much I was getting, and the anticipation is killing me. I’m just excited that I got a scholarship.”

The senior class trip to Hershey park will be on Friday, May 23.

Senior Anne Berg is looking forward to attending the senior trip.

“I’m excited to go and miss school with all of my friends,” said Berg. “I love Hershey, and it’s going to be so much more fun with all of the seniors going.”

Baccalaureate will be on Sunday, June 1 at 6:30 p.m. at Grace Fellowship Church. Seniors need to wear gowns with no caps and their graduation attire under their gown. The senior slide show will be shown again. Seniors who have signed up for and prepared speeches, poems, and songs will get a chance to entertain the audience during the ceremony.

Practices for graduation will take place Thursday, June 5th at 9:00 a.m. and Friday, June 6 at 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Following the graduation practice on June 5, there will be a senior pizza party at 10:00 a.m.

The class of 2014’s graduation ceremony will be held on Friday, June 6 at 7:00 p.m. Seniors are to meet in the gym at 6:15 p.m. and to be dressed ready for graduation. For more information, visit the senior newsletter.
