The softball team had a strong start to their post-season with a 8-3 win against Kennard-Dale in the YAIAA semifinals Monday, May 12 at Spring Grove.

According to GametimePA, they were able to pull of a lead of 3-0 after Sophomore Mallory Lebo and sophomore Lily Yoakum both got a bases; loaded walk. Then a ground out by Sophomore Maddy Staub in the fourth brought Lebo home after a triple with one out. Staub followed that up by scoring on a Ram’s error that brought senior Megan Rogers on base.

Rogers is very pleased with how the season went and for what is to come.

“We’ve done really well because we have worked together as one unit, and we are like a family,” said Rogers. “I do believe we could go pretty far in post-season. We have done so well already, and we will just continue the momentum into post season.”

Shortly after the Warriors took their strong lead, the skies opened up, and the teams were forced to take a 77 minute rain delay.

Kennard-Dale, with a record of 13-5, scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth. Following the Ram’s run, the Warriors came back to bring home a run from freshman Mackenzie Gibson with a single from Yoakum and then Staub tripled home Lebo and freshman Tyler Williams to bring the score to 8-1.

Senior pitcher Sara Lynch pitched until she was replaced by sophomore Megan Green in the seventh inning.

“I pitched really well,” said Lynch. “I know the rain affected me the third inning, but otherwise I did pretty good.”

Kennard-Dale made a great effort to come back in the seventh inning scoring 2 runs but their

effort wasn’t enough to recover from the huge lead the warriors had.

Athletic Director Chuck Abbott thinks the girls did great in their semifinal game.

“I think they played a good game,” said Abbott. “They had all around solid pitching, great defense, racked up the runs, and most importantly they had no errors.”

Staub and Yoakum both drove three runs and Staub, Lebo and junior Rachel Martin each added two hits to the Warrior’s nine hit attack.

The team will next face off in the championship game where they will face Dallastown who won their semifinal game 7-1 over Delone Catholic. Dallastown defeated the Warriors in the last encounter on April 14 with a score of 6-3 in eight innings.
