The Warrior baseball team lost in extra innings, 6-5, against the visiting Southwest Mustangs on Susquehannock’s senior night.

Due to fielding miscues, Southwestern was able to take advantage and score early in the top of the ninth inning. The Mustang’s Shane Swearman went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Matt Taylor 2-for-5 with a scored run.

“It was disappointing to lose on our senior night,” said senior center-fielder Sammy Miller. “It was a really close game, and we didn’t play the way we should’ve.”

Starting pitcher senior Alec Lebo struck out two and walked five, pitching five innings. Senior Luke Knott pitched the sixth inning and sophomore Connor Hood pitched the seventh and eighth inning, totaling one strikeout. Junior Alex Palmer pitched the ninth inning and got the loss for the Warriors.

Susquehannock battled against the Mustangs throughout every inning. With Southwestern coming out of the first inning with a 1-0 lead, Susky scored two runs in the fourth inning and two in the bottom of the seventh to tie things up at 5-5. The Warriors were unable to get quality hits and gave up the winning run in the top of the ninth.

Knott led Susquehannock with three hits, two RBIs and one run scored. Senior first baseman Josh Houser had two doubles, one being the hit that tied the game up at five.

On Wednesday, May 7 Houser battled Delone starting pitcher, Dalton Haymaker, for a YAIAA matchup for the books. The Squires defeated the Warriors 2-1 in extra innings, Delone’s Devong Craig had a walk-off single to end the game in the ninth inning.

“He was a great pitcher,” said Houser. “One of us had to come out on top and unfortunately that was him.”

Haymaker carried a no-hitter until the sixth inning against the Warriors, and struck out 11 batters all game. He only allowed only two hits and threw 117 pitches. Susquehannock’s Houser struck out nine batters and walked two.

“I thought I pitched really well,” said Houser. “I pitched deep into the game and threw 9 innings. When you pitch for that long you wanna win the game; regardless, it was a fun game to play in.”

By winning their division, the Warriors have clinched a berth into the YAIAA County tournament; they will face Division II winner West York at Revolution Stadium on Wednesday, May 14 at 7:00 p.m..
