Graduation requires year-round work

Graduation, a memorable time for seniors to cherish forever, is more than a one day event.

Preparation begins at the beginning of the school year.  In the beginning of the year, senior class council advisor Kristin Johnson passes out order forms for caps and gowns and organizes the senior breakfast.  Graduation is not one great night, nor even one week of work; it is in fact a yearlong task for the organizer of the ceremony.

This year more than ever, Johnson has had to work through many issues to allow those leaving the school one more night to remember Susquehannock with.

“The biggest obstacle this year has been the snow,” Johnson said.  “Because of it, we have to wait for a board meeting on April 17 just to set a date for graduation.”

Nevertheless, she confirmed that everything else is taken care of.  With months left of school, Johnson reports that she will be done with preparing graduation as soon as the April board meeting is over.  Once that happens, everything will officially be “firmed up.”

However, most students are unaware of the immense work that goes into graduation.  They are, however, very grateful for it and look forward to the outcome.

Senior Jonathan Hayes is looking forward to Susquehannock’s graduation.

“The best part of graduation will be when everyone goes up and gets their diplomas,” Hayes said.  “That will be a great feeling for me.”

Senior Ashton Alban is also looking forward to graduation night for a far different reason.

“The best part of that night will be just graduating,” Alban said.  “I cannot wait to get my diploma and move on to other things in my life.”
While to the seniors it may seem to be far away, for Johnson graduation has already started.
