The picture frames in front of the library are there for a reason.  Staff members have formed a group called the Culture of Excellence that wants to show off an equitable display of student achievements at Susky.

Teacher Wesley Myers is one of the co-chairs of the committee.

“…If we can cause students that have been here for four years…to stop and be like, ‘Hey, that wasn’t there before,’ … if we can spark some interest and kind of catch their attention for a couple of minutes, I’m happy,” said Myers.  The wall in front of the library will show off different student’s artwork throughout the year.  “We’re trying to showcase [and] feature an artist,” added Myers.  “It’s probably going to be photographers, but it could be honestly anyone.  We put more frames up there to try and showcase eight pieces of the student, and it’s going to change.  …It’s going to introduce the student, …have their artist statement, which is kind of like their summary of their artwork thus far, and where they hope to take it, and their inspiration.”

Other staff members in the committee are teachers Barbara Nealon, Zachary Levi, Maureen Honeychuck, Kayse Corrieri, Margery Erickson, Cassie Timcheck, Heath Hallman, and guidance counselor Colleen Dzwonczyk.  Co-chair teacher Wade Bowers explains how the group has not yet included students, but they are planning to.  “Right now it’s just teachers,” Bowers said. “However, we’re thinking about getting some students on board that could maybe help give us a different point of view and share some ideas that they think would also help that culture.”  Dr. Robert Bryson asked Bowers and Myers to co-chair the Culture of Excellence.  “I’m excited,” Myers said. “If I didn’t get placed on the committee, I would have wanted to be on this one just because…we’re always talking about the students being well rounded as [one goes] through high school.  It’s good that our school shows…we have a bunch of different [student] interests.”  The committee is planning to change the gym lobby by bringing in more display cases and moving the vending machines.  “We’re hoping to create a whole new feel…” said Bowers.
