Prom Tuxedos: What you need to know

With prom just around the corner, a guy needs his tuxedo.

Whether one is going with a date or stag, tuxedo shopping can be a pain for some, and a fun experience for others.

If a tux is needed, a good place to go may be Men’s Warehouse. This dress clothes shop can be found in York, PA right next to the York Galleria Mall. Men’s Warehouse offers numerous tuxedos for a fairly low price for a rental.

A decent tuxedo that is stylish and not too expensive will cost the average buyer around $140. Just make sure when getting the tuxedo, one tells whoever is helping them that a cheaper tux is desired, otherwise they [the helpers] do not take price into consideration, nor do they tell prices while suiting up the buyer.

If one is not too particular about price, then something to pay attention to is style. Considering that most tuxedos are single breasted (buttons going down just the center of the jacket); the main detail that needs tending to is color. Tuxedos at Men’s Warehouse can come in black, gray, and white with different patterns. When it breaks down to specifics, such as the vest, tie, etc., it may get a little more complicated.

Senior Jeromy McCauley recently picked his tux up from Men’s Warehouse, and his experience was similar to most who go there. “The selection wasn’t very broad when I went,” said McCauley. “There were only about four colors to choose from.”

When it came to pricing, McCauley was surprised at how much it ended up costing him in the end, due to the employees failing to inform him of the prices of items along the way. Overall, for McCauley it was a fairly simple endeavor, and the employees were pretty helpful. “They have a really good reputation,” claimed McCauley. “Just make sure you ask along the way to make sure you are getting what you want.”

Depending on whether one has a date or not, colors may have to coordinate. If the latter is the situation, go nuts. Customize the tuxedo however one desires. Use any color, any tie, shoes, cuff links, etc. that one wants. For a guy who enjoys fashion, this is a field day. With a date on the other hand, those creative juices can be suppressed.

For junior Zach Golante, the task of getting a tuxedo was very easy and seemingly filled with broader choices than McCauley’s. “When I went, they had a lot of different choices,” said Golante. “I just told them a color, and they went in the back and pulled out an entire rack of that color.” Having to match someone at prom may not always be easy, but it was easy for Golante when he went to Men’s Warehouse. “They know what they’re doing,” said Golante. “I just told them what I needed, and they helped me find everything.” Golante’s experience was simple and easy, and as long as one knows what they want, or even has a basic idea, the employees can help with getting the right tuxedo for the occasion.

With a date, matching is usually required. So if one’s date happens to have the puke green dress that was last in the pile, oh well, it still  needs to be matched. Just bite the bullet, and try to find the best thing for the situation so no one is miserable with how they look.

Most likely everything besides the undershirt and the pants come off once the dancing starts, so don’t stress when it comes to tuxedos. Just get creative, and have fun with it.
