Pop stars are beginning their careers at younger ages every year, and singer Austin Mahone is no exception.

  Mahone was born April 9, 1996 and is currently rising in fame at the young age of 16.

 His career began with viral videos of him performing cover songs of other artists and bands. His first song, “11:11,” went viral in 2011. This song created a lot of buzz because it revealed that he had a talent at writing his own music, along with being a talented singer. The song became his first hit single on iTunes.

  Recently, he signed on with Chase Records, also known as Universal Republic. The label has not released a time frame for his first album; however, he had a limited edition, a two song-CD released on February 27, 2013. It can be found in stores such as Claire’s and Justice.

 His music tells of his past loves and hopes for future loves. He has a deeper voice than most 16-year-old boys, which sets him apart from Justin Bieber.

  Sophomore Brodie See has been a fan of Mahone since discovering his version of cover songs.

  “I like the way he projects his voice; there isn’t any autotune…. I like how he makes you want to sing along,” said See.

   His own songs include “11:11,” “Say Somethin,’” and most recently, “Say You’re Just a Friend,” which features the well-known rapper, Flo Rida. All three of the songs are available on iTunes as singles.

  One random day at a coffee shop, a year ago, Austin met Taylor Swift. Now, at the beginning of March, he plans to begin touring with her on her Red Tour.

  Senior Erin Baker heard of Mahone recently and was delightfully surprised.

  “I was surprised at how fast his fame is growing,” said Baker.

  Starting this month, he has his own scheduled dates to perform. He’s performing in Canada and the large cities of states like Texas, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and etc. A few of the performances include stars like Demi Lovato, Cher Lloyd, Cody Simpson, and Bridgit Mendler. His recent performance, held on February 27, 2013,  filled a full stadium.

  His fame is skyrocketing. His performance dates are being publicized through pop radio stations. He has been featured on shows like Live! With Kelly and Michael, Access Hollywood, E! News, and Popstar magazine.

  Austin Mahone is believed to replace Justin Bieber. However, Bieber’s fan base could have the potential to keep his fame strong. Only time will tell for the two young stars.
