55th Annual Grammy Awards

All of the hottest names in music met at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California on February 10th, 2013 for the 55th Annual Grammy Awards.
While the artists got together on the most famous music night of the year, viewers at home waited anxiously, waiting for their music icons to be announced as “Best New Artist” or “Best Pop Solo Performer.”
Sophomore Brittney Fitzgerald described the suspense.
“Leading up to the Grammys, I like to look at the dresses and that gets me excited to watch the awards,” said Fitzgerald.
Senior Brian Bailone also watched the Grammy Awards on Sunday.
, “Ed Sheeran performing [was my favorite] because it was his first time there. I thought that Ed sounded good,” said Bailone.
When the awards were carefully given to the chosen nominees, some were thrilled while others were deeply disappointed.
Some of the most prestigious categories and winners are as follows:
Record of the Year- “Somebody That I Used to Know” by Gotye
Album of the Year- Babel by Mumford & Sons
Song of the Year- “We Are Young” by Fun.
Best New Artist- Fun.
Best Pop Solo Performance- “Set Fire to the Rain” by Adele
Best Pop Duo/Group Performance- “Somebody that I Used to Know” by Gotye
Best Pop Instrumental Album- Impressions by Chris Botti
Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album- Kisses on the Bottom by Paul McCartney
Best Pop Vocal Album- Stronger by Kelly Clarkson
Best Rock Performance- “Lonely Boy” by The Black Keys
Best Rock Album- El Camino by The Black Keys
Best R&B Performance- “Climax” by Usher
Best Traditional R&B Performance- “Love on Top” by Beyoncé
Best Rap Performance- by Jay-Z and Kanye West
Best Rap Song- by Jay-Z and Kanye West
Bailone, after watching the Grammys, had several opinions on the outcome.
“Overall, I was [happy with the results],” said Bailone, “[But] I really wanted Katy Perry to win because she’s been in the industry for such a long time.”
Business teacher Kellin McCullough  admitted she was watching the show for other reasons.   “Some of them I had no clue who [some of the artists] were. I was…watching for the fashion!” McCullough said.
