Susquehannock Choral Students Earn Spots in Vocal Jazz Ensemble
January 24, 2017
Two Susquehannock High School choral students auditioned recently for the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) District 7 Vocal Jazz Ensemble at Central York High School. Both students earned spots in the tenor section.
Susquehannock junior Brendan Paules and senior Julien Sherman participated in the audition. In order to earn a spot, students needed to place in the top four in their voice part. This year, there were nine tenors auditioning. Paules placed first and Sherman placed third, qualifying both of them as members of the jazz ensemble.
“This is the first time to my knowledge that Susquehannock had two students earn spots,” said Jay Althouse, Susquehannock’s director of choral music. “Congratulations to these fine young men on their outstanding achievement!” said Althouse.
The PMEA District 7 Jazz Festival will take place March 17 – 18, 2017 at Dover High School. The students will be working with Dr. Sheryl Monkelien who is a professor of music education at Mansfield University.
