Susquehannock High School seniors taught lessons on the election process to Southern Middle and Southern Elementary School students on Election Day, November 8, 2016.

The seniors traveled to Southern Middle School and Southern Elementary School to share their civics knowledge with the younger students.  The younger students were divided into groups for the different topics, including how government is set up, branches of the government, the history of political parties, and 3rd parties.  Each lesson was taught by a duo of high school seniors. The attendees rotated around the room to complete all of the lessons.  Social studies teacher Heather Schoemaker explained that each station tied into the current classroom curriculum.  The different grade levels of students within the district were able to collaborate and learn together about the election.  “This way, students are learning the electoral process from their high school counterparts,” said Schoemaker.

Susquehannock High School social studies teachers Heather Schoemaker, Steven Wiles, and Kevin Lawrence were responsible for organizing the high school senior instructors and implementing the lessons for the younger students.
