Susky Station, a collaborative student-run kiosk, which provides real life business experience, has opened at Susquehannock High School.

The store is a partnership between Tom Laure’s life skills support and Kellin McCullough’s entrepreneurship classes. “I’m always thinking of ways for my students to be engaged with the student body. This opportunity allows this to happen on a daily basis,” said Laure. “The authenticity of working at Susky Station provides my students an opportunity to apply classroom practices in a real world setting,” he added.  Two students and one staff member operate the store during business hours.  Entrepreneurship students are responsible for market research, product development, pricing, developing and implementing promotions along with evaluating procedures. The opportunity enables students to apply learned curriculum in a hands-on experience.

McCullough and Laure were awarded a $1,000 Innovation Grant from the York County Alliance for Learning to purchase the store kiosk. SYCSD’s food services provider, Metz, is helping to stock the store. Susquehannock’s Student Council, the Life Skills program, and Susquehannock’s Future Business Leaders of America all made donations to help fund startup costs.

Susky Station is open daily from 7:30 – 10:30 a.m. and 12:45 – 2:15 p.m. for students to purchase snacks or beverages.
