Susky Orchestra: What’s happening

Twelve lucky members of the SHS Orchestra participated in the LVC Honors Orchestra Concert this past Saturday, November 11.

This festival, put together by Lebanon Valley College, features ten to fifteen schools’ students from four different counties to perform together in the full day music festival.

Each school received the same piece of music, learned the piece separately, and came together on November 9-10 to play together in one big ensemble.

Zachary Levi, the school’s Orchestra teacher, was excited about the event this past weekend.

“ The students had a meaningful musical experience,” said Levi. “They weren’t motivated by pressure to be perfect.”

Among the seniors were Samantha Leslie, Alyssa Denis, Nathan Rivers, and Sean Kaliszak, followed by juniors Abbey Bond and Jacob Rivers, sophomores Alexander Rebich, Clayton Leisure, Starr Faster, Brooke Weber, and freshmen Cody Dennis, and Quinlan Kauffman.

Senior Samantha Leslie was happy to have been chosen to participate in the prestigious event.

“There were a lot of good musicians,” said Leslie. “It gave me a good chance to challenge myself.”

Although it was very tiring playing for four hours straight, Leslie still had a lot of fun.

“It was nice to see the musicians from other schools with different musical backgrounds come together as one,” said Leslie.

There are more events for the Orchestra coming up that students should keep an eye out for, including the District Festival, and the Holiday Concert, “Christmas at the Movies.”

The concert will include the Orchestra, Choir, and Jazz band and will premier December 16 and played again for students December 21, the day before winter break.

“I am expecting a supportive, encouraging audience that knows how to behave well and support their peers,” said Levi.
