Free Kesha

Singer-songwriter Kesha has been going through a rough court battle recently with her producer Dr. Luke.

The judge denied her release from Sony music, and her supporters are highly upset. She has accused Dr. Luke of physically and sexually assaulting her.

Kesha said that Dr. Luke has been trying to  take advantage of her since the day that she signed with him at the age of eighteen years old, according to a Rollingstone interview.

Kesha also said that he forced her to take drugs and alcohol to make her feel at ease.

Back in 2014, Kesha sued Dr. Luke, so that she could get out of her contract and sign with someone new.

In her statement, she says that he wouldn’t let her release music, and she mentions the physical and sexual abuse.

Both Kesha and Dr. Luke have been in this ongoing court battle for about two years, and on their last court date, the judge denied Kesha getting released from her contract due to lack of evidence. The public Kesha fans and celebrities were quick to run to Kesha’s side and started a “ Free Kesha” protest.

Protests have been standing outside of the Sony headquarters with their signs screaming “Free Kesha.”

Since Dr. Luke’s label is attached to Sony, protesters are saying how Sony knows what was happening to Kesha, and they didn’t want to help her; Sony made no statement at first.

Sony eventually made a statement about the situation:

“Kesha can record without interacting with Dr. Luke, but we can’t terminate the contract,” said a lawyer of Sony music

Celebrities like Adele, Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift have showed their support.

  • Taylor Swift gave her $250,000 to cover all of her financial needs.
  • After receiving her award at the Brit awards, Adele shouted out Kesha to.
  • Lady Gaga went to twitter and put up a picture of her and Kesha, captioning it “ Free Kesha.”
  • Gaga also went on Snapchat with to video her kissing Kesha on the cheek.

This protest is to spread awareness about any kind of abuse.
