Community Service Club Begins

Community Service Club has assigned its officers, and the members are ready to get involved with the community.

The officers for this year’s club are: senior Abby Ferraro (president), senior Ellie Holloway (vice president), senior Maddy Mummert (secretary) and senior Kelly Franz (treasurer).

Metal teacher Jack Stoneberg has been the advisor for the club for several years now.

“What’s so great about this club is that it gets the students involved with the community, and they can learn what it’s like to help others voluntarily,” Stoneberg said.

Ferraro is ready to take on the role of president. She has been an active member of Community Service Club throughout her high school years and will be responsible for the club this year.

“[My role of being president] is to communicate with the other members of the club, organize events, and meet with members from the Lion’s Club,” Ferraro said.

Mummert is excited about siding with the Leo program this year, something that they have not done in the past. The Leo program’s objective is to provide the youth an opportunity to get involved with the community that they live in. The Leo program focuses on leadership, experience and opportunity.

“This year we are going to get very involved because the Leo program gives us a lot of different events that we could volunteer for like Adopt-A-Family around Christmas time,” Mummert said.

Even though the Leo program offers the club a handful of different events, the club will still get involved in different community events throughout the school year. On Wednesday, October 28, from 6:00-8:00 p.m., different members from the club will be volunteering at October Fun Night, which is the district’s own trick-or-treating event. Ferraro discusses how members will be working throughout the night.

“We have a lot of students who are involved in other clubs, so they will be working different classrooms. However, we will definitely have members in our classroom and others will pop in and out,” Ferraro said.

The classroom where Community Service will be located has not been assigned yet and will be assigned on a later date closer to the event. Anyone can sign up for the club throughout the year. Members will have meetings in either Stoneberg’s room or in the auditorium, varying from before school and after school.
