The Warrior field hockey team improved their record to 10-1 with a victory, 5-1,  over Eastern on Thursday, October 1.IMG_1854

With 40 degrees of gusting raining,  the weather was rough, but senior midfielder Maddie McGowan believes that this game was the best they have played so far this season.

“We had a really good passing game, making our passes sequential, which made it a lot easier to score,” McGowan said.

Within the first three minutes of the game, McGowan scored from the top of the circle. Eastern responded with a goal to tie the game 1-1. This gave the team a lot of motivation, leading to senior Camryn Burk’s goal only 5 minutes later, making the game 2-1.

Coach Sharon McLaughlin has been coaching Susquehannock field hockey for the past 20 years.

“Getting goals early in the game is important so that we can get a lead and not fall short if anything happens later in the game,”  McLaughlin said.

Senior Emily Houska made the score 3-1, heading into halftime with a goal from the post. Within the first 15 minutes of the second half, McGowan and Houska both scored again for the Warriors. Junior center midfielder Brooke Morris produced most of the passing game. Morris gets a lot of action and a lot of touches on the ball since she is in the middle of the field.

The Warriors start their week on Monday, October 5, home against Gettysburg. The Warriors last played Gettysburg on September 21, where they lost 4-2. They hope to beat the Warriors from Gettysburg so that they will share the division title.
