Senior Swimmers Say Goodbye

Senior swimmers said goodbye to their high school swimming years on February 1 at the final swim meet of the season against Gettysburg.

Senior Patrick Hogan, a two-year member, is one of eight seniors that have reached the end of their high school swimming careers.

Though Hogan plans to swim in college, he will miss the aspects of high school swimming.

“[What I enjoy most about being a part of the swim team would] definitely be the family environment. We all have each other’s backs. We all motivate each other,” said Hogan.

Not only did the swim team have an impressive year, but it also ended the season with a win in the division against Gettysburg, something the team has striven towards for multiple years.

“[Winning the division] was a huge shocker and a big relief. I will never forget that moment when they called the tie,” said Hogan.

Being a part of the swim team made a lasting impact on Hogan.

“I’d have to say that without swimming I don’t think I’d be in the best shape of my life now,” said Hogan. “Where I’m at today, I feel as though without swimming my high school career would not [have been] as enjoyable as I wanted it to be.”

Brian Wingert has been the swim coach for three years and has watched most of the seniors grow as swimmers and as people. As the seniors look into college, Wingert encourages all of them to continue to swim. He was incredibly impressed with his team and is happy the seniors got to be a part of the team.

“I think they did great, guys and girls. The guys clearly won the division, so that’s a great accomplishment. [Over half of our girls team] was brand new this year, and they just made leaps and bounds of improvements over the course of the year,” said Wingert.

This year’s victory at divisions was the first in Susquehannock history, an excellent way for the seniors to end their high school swimming career.
