Meet The Winners of Battle of the Buildings

Seventeen Susquehannock teachers banded together to raise money and ultimately come out victorious during the annual Battle of the Building, which took place on February 26.

Unlike in years past, the money from this Battle of the Buildings will go to the family of Jenny Smith, a sophomore currently fighting cancer, and the Four Diamonds Fund, which is an organization that assists victims of childhood cancer, in addition to benefiting Dollars for Scholars. All #TeamJenny t-shirts benefit the Four Diamonds Fund, all #TeamJenny bracelet sales go to Smith’s family, and Battle of Buildings tickets go to the Dollars for Scholars Fund.

For each SHS team member, being on the team and raising money for a worthy cause means something a little bit different. The teachers commented on their participation in the order they appear in this photograph.

“I have a bunch of fun raising a lot of money for a good cause,” said technology education James Rayburn.

“It means my colleagues really appreciate me,” said assistant principal James Holliger.

“I think it’s important because it builds community between our different schools,” said assistant principal Melissa Bell. “It’s for a great cause.”

“It’s a great opportunity to host a fun event that’s for a good cause that directly affects our high school,” said mathematics teacher J.C. Lewis.

“I really like to win,” said art teacher Wesley Myers. “Not to mention, a lot of people have fun spectating.”

“[Battle of the Buildings is about] having a lot of fun getting to know fellow teachers and raise money for a good cause,” said business education teacher Jesse Krotzer.

“I think it’s a good time to show your school spirit,” said technology education teacher Jack Stoneberg.

“It means participating in a great fundraiser and bringing the community together,” said social studies teacher Robert Cousineau.

“Participating on #TeamJenny allows us the opportunity to help a student in need,” said English teacher Sara Cieslewicz. “It really lets [Susquehannock] show its heart, and it’s an exceptional time to do so.”

“I think it’s a really fun way to bring awareness to one of our students and get staff members to bond a little bit out of the traditional school setting,” said English teacher Jessica Beste.

“It’s a way for me to be a part of my new school community and support the students,” said guidance counselor Kate Miklos.

“It’s a great way for teachers to showcase their friendships and to encourage school spirit,” said social studies teacher Abby Kocher.

“It’s showing students that I care about students’ futures and the school,” said English teacher Madison Carr. “[I’m] supporting everyone at Susquehannock.”

“It means having fun for a good cause,” said business education teacher Jocelyn Ruppert.

“I did it last year and had a lot of fun,” said social studies teacher Kirsten Hamilla. “This year, we’re on #TeamJenny, so we’re showing our support even though she’s not here with us.”
“It means camaraderie, fun, and friends all for a good cause,” said special education teacher Patti McGee. “My daughter was a recipient of Dollars for Scholars money, so I always try to give back.”
